Responsibilities:
The CMS Manager will provide technology guidance and formulate business processes with respect to:
- editorial publishing, content management for both traditional newsroom content and user generated blog-like content
- third-party asset ingestion and management
- content moderation,
- and administration services
This manager will lead a team of engineers to help execute and build on these recommendations. While this role will primarily work with the Editorial and Product Development teams, he/she will be actively collaborating with the Web Technology Team and should be prepared to coordinate technology decisions and responsibilities with the VP of Web Technology. This coordination will involve application development, presentation development, infrastructure, and database management.
You are ultimately responsible for understanding the needs and defining the products for Editors, Content Partners and Users to publish content.
Requirements:
- Must have 5 to 7 years experience working with CMS and an established CMS technology, i.e. Interwoven, Vignette, etc. Supplemental experience in open source publishing frameworks, i.e. Cocoon as well.
- Must have experience with XML/XSLT, REST/SOAP in a Services Oriented Architecture through Java or Perl.
- Must have experience setting infrastructure and database guidelines for all publishing based systems.
- Experience with media asset management systems (e.g. The Platform)
- Demonstrated team management and leadership skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience gathering requirements with editorial stakeholders, and translating them into technical and business requirements.
- Must be familiar with general editorial publishing processes, from versioning, draft copies, editorial collaboration, video/image asset management for stories, preview, and publication.
- Strong preference for a candidate that has worked in a media business with a strong newsroom presence online or offline, i.e. newspaper, publishing house, or general media entertainment (sports, films, music, etc).
- A solid understanding of User Centered Design philosophies and the Agile development process
